The Ukraine is the largest country in Europe after Russia and is a country of many pleasant surprises such as many stunning Gothic & Byzantine buildings standing side by side with Barque & Modern architecture, many beautiful cathedrals & monasteries, areas of stunning natural beauty, vibrant coastal resorts and some serious history. Ukrainian history was both turbulent and interesting with devastating plagues that swept the country, rampaging Cossacks, WWI, a major civil war, 1922s unification with Russia which lead to the Stalin purges, more devastation in WWII, the Chernobyl disaster of 1986, the unsuccessful Soviet coup of 1991, and finally independence.
Visiting the Ukraine is good at most times of the year as the country offers a. moderate continental climate with July usually being the hottest month inland. But between April and early June is arguably the prettiest time, but try to avoid going to Odessa & the Crimea during July & August, as it can get extremely busy. The Ukraine offers some excellent trekking, hiking and camping options especially in the Crimea and Carpathian regions.
Travellers to the Ukraine will find the general cost of living very reasonable and hotel rates can be very good during certain seasons, although during the Summer months the Crimea region hotels rates can increase due to popularity.
Any traveller that decides to venture to this delightful country will wish to return again and again.

Ukraine has relatively low levels of street and car crime. However, foreigners offer lucrative targets and you should be vigilant. You should keep valuables and cash out of sight, especially in crowded areas and tourist spots, where pickpockets and bag snatchers operate. A common scam is to drop a wallet or bundle of money in front of a tourist. The crook then "finds" the money and asks if it is the tourist's or offers to share the money with them. If you are approached in this way, you should walk away without engaging in conversation. You should also beware of accepting drinks in bars from casual acquaintances, which could be spiked.
If you take the overnight train you should, if possible, travel accompanied and you should secure your compartment from the inside by tying the door closed with wire or cord.
Visitors are advised not to travel to the following areas until further notice Melitopol in the Zaporozhye region.
Travellers should carry their passport at all times and obtain a Ukrainian visa before entering the country, if required.
